At 12:37pm on Sunday December 4th, 2016 the Bangor Fire Department was notified of a high occupancy facility fire on the 1st block of Broadway in Bangor.
Smoke could be seen billowing out from the top of Market St and fire fighters responding from Liberty Fire Co #2 immediately knew there was a working a fire at the structure. Upon arriving at the scene at least one room on the third floor of the building which is a mixed use commercial and residential structure was fully engulfed with flames exiting through the window.
Mutual aid was provided from multiple departments throughout the county (East Bangor, Roseto, Mount Bethel, Portland, Forks Twp) to help have this fire under control within a short amount of time. As the county is under drought conditions a water tanker was brought in to provide additional water to combat the fire. Multiple families, along with their children escaped safely. Unfortunately, two cats were claimed as casualties but firefighters were able to rescue two pet turtles.
