On Saturday October 5th 2024 members of the Bangor Fire Department (Liberty Fire Co #2, Rescue Fire Company #1 & 2nd Ward Fire Company) participated in the PPES Guardian mobile simulator.
The mobile simulator allows firefighters to train for real life scenarios in a controlled environment. The simulator allows the firefighters to train for structural collapse, breaching walls (sheetrock, concrete), confined space rescue & much more.
Our training focused mostly on confined space rescue of a down firefighter. Different scenarios were set up, where teams of firefighters had to work together to rescue a down firefighter. Some of the scenarios include breaching a dura rock wall, changing out air cylinders (bottles) while inside the simulator & buddy breathing between two firefighters. These scenarios were set up by the PPES instructors based on real life situations. The training was intense and tasking on all who participated.
The planning for this training began in February of this year. This one days training cost the fire companies approximately $4,000.00. This financial commitment shows that the Bangor Fire Department is willing to go the extra mile.
We would like to thank Justin from PPES Guardian for the excellent training. We also would like to thank Blue Valley Rescue Squad for providing vitals and medical support.
